Identify the size of your tyre
The exact dimensions of a tyre can be found on the sidewall printed mark. The graphic shows how to read properties and dimensions of the tyre:

SPEED INDEX:
The speed index indicates the maximum speed intended for the tyre. Up to this value, the manufacturer guarantees optimum operation with the appropriate tyre pressure. The maximum speed allowed for this vehicle is given in the vehicle owner's manual; this information can be used to select the appropriate speed index for the tyre. The speed index is the last mark on the sidewall of the tyre.
 
Load Index
Permissible maximum axle load per tyre in kg. To be found in the registration certificate or vehicle registration document or read directly from the tyre (two-digit number). It is permitted to fit a tyre with a higher load index.
 
Driving safety despite puncture
Runflat tyres are puncture-resistant tyres with reinforced sidewalls. This creates the so-called run-flat property. In the event of damage, this allows the vehicle to continue driving up to a distance of approx. 100 km (and even beyond depending on the product) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h, even if the pressure has been completely lost. Run-flat tyres even prevent the tyre rubber from jumping off the rim in the event of a loss of air pressure. A flat tyre is therefore still a flat tyre, but it loses some of its drama. Note: All run-flat tyres are marked with the symbol "RSC" (Runflat System Component) and may only be fitted in vehicles with a functioning air pressure control system!
 
Tyres with increased load capacity
Reinforced tyres are designed for higher loads than normal tyres. They can be identified by the designation 'RF' (reinforced) or also 'XL' or 'Extra Load'. They are used on vans, minibuses, off-road vehicles, etc. However, their mounting alone does not automatically result in higher load capacity but also requires a correspondingly higher air pressure. Furthermore, the load capacity index specified in the vehicle documents continues to apply.
 
Tyres with extra high load capacity
The "C" in the term C tyres stands for "commercial". These tyres are specially designed for commercial vehicles. These can be, for example, lighter trucks, delivery vans, flatbed trucks or panel vans. In other words: vehicles that have to move higher loads at a comparatively lower speed. The multi-ply reinforced C tyres are therefore even more load-bearing than reinforced tyres.
 
Mobility-optimised tyres
A tyre with a sealing layer on the opposite side of the tyre tread. In the event of a puncture (e.g. by a nail), this layer blocks any loss of air, even if the foreign body causing the puncture is still in the tyre. It is not necessary to stop or change the tyres immediately at the roadside.

Original equipment quality: optimum adjustment to the vehicle
Tyres with a special OEM marking on the sidewall, e.g. "MO" for Mercedes-Benz, were developed in cooperation with a specific car manufacturer and the tyre industry. These tyres have been homologated by the vehicle manufacturer and are a perfect match for a specific model. They have been specially designed to highlight or further improve the performance characteristics of the car in question, thus representing the culmination of a state-of-the-art fine-tuning process that perfectly complements the latest technological developments in the automotive industry. Fabulous tyres and exceptional wear, considering the price point of these, especially given my driving style. I&#39;ll definitely see over 20000 miles on these tyres which I find remarkable on a heavy car with over 400hp. Could I have better grip, sure for twice the price. Do you really need it, even for having fun on UK roads, no! They are soft rubber though, so you&#39;ll know if your alignment is out, these didn&#39;t last long on my Merc V Class!

Doing relatively high mileage of over 40k every year, I&#39;ve been through various different premium tyres over the years. Let me tell you, in the 5k miles on these tyres so far I&#39;d say they&#39;re pound for pound up there with premium tyres for everyday driving. I&#39;ve found them to be really good in the wet, no major drama with aquaplaning and my heavy right foot has encountered no issues in cornering. Strangely, I&#39;ve found that I&#39;m more confident with these in the wet than dry- they tend to be slightly unpredictable when pushing on. Not a massive issue by any means and shouldn&#39;t put anybody off, it&#39;s just highlighted by my spirited driving style! Wear seems to be decent so far, but as I said I&#39;ve only done 5k so far so too early to tell. All in all, great value for money and worth a try. On 20&#39;s, The Goodyear Eagle F1s that I had on previously were &pound;160 each, whereas I got these for &pound;115. 200 quid saved, and genuinely no worse performance. Well done Viking!

Slightly noisier at low speeds than I had expected (my Cooper winter tyres are quieter) although the relative noise abates at higher speeds. They&#39;re pretty firm on bumpy roads where I drive most often. Superb for motorway driving in terms of low noise and excellent ride comfort.

These tyres were OE on my 2017 Passat Estate so I stuck with the same when it came to replacing the fronts. I&#39;m still on the original rears. The fronts did around 24K miles while the tread left of the rears gives me around another 10K at least. However, the tyres walls on the rear have slight cracking even though they haven&#39;t been curbed and if get worst it will become an MOT failure at the cars first MOT this year. The one area where these tyres are weakest are the road noise. I&#39;m sure there are quieter tyres out there but they may be weaker in other areas. On the whole these Pirellis are more than suitable for any family car.

These tyres are good value and perform safely and well when used within legal parameters on UK roads. One slight negative is road surfaces can sometimes make tyre noise quite high but other than that I will definitely buy them again.

The tyres were 7/10 when I got them, the wet straight line grip is great the dry performance is above average. Quiet and comfortable tyres. The tyre wear is poor, I had new arms,tie rods, drop links and bushings as well as alignment done afterwards. The tyres showed excessive wear on the edge after only 8000 miles. I always check tyre pressure every week.

The most expensive conti's I've ever purchased (x4) Ouch!! I've bought a lot of other conti's in the past. Inc Sportcontact & Uniroyal tyres. Ecocontact5 are noisy, very average grip levels in wet & dry conditions. Poor wear levels for a so called eco tyre :-( Neither do I like the feel of them during cornering. I will not buy these budget/mid range level tyres again. I really don't have anything positive to say about these tyres. Apart from when I'm going to change them. Buy another mid range tyre instead or even a budget & save money ;-)

205 55 R16 Summer Tyres in All Price Ranges

Primarily used for saloons and mid-range estate vehicles, the 205 55 R16 is a summer tyre produced by numerous companies. Premium manufacturers as well as companies where the costs for the new tyres are in the lower price range. For many years, this dimension has been a standard tyre for many vehicles in the summer, allowing consumers to benefit from its excellent characteristics. Whether on dry or wet ground conditions, most models convince with a good performance. In general, the tyre models correspond to a speed index of H (up to 130 mph) or V (up to 150 mph).

Due to the high demand, developers are always striving to produce efficient tyres. Compared to all-season tyres, these tyres show significantly better values at higher asphalt temperatures and sufficient grip to handle various sections of the track with a sporty and quiet driving style.

Summer tyres are the standard tires of newly delivered vehicles. Compared to the winter tyres, used in wintry road conditions in the cold season, summer tyres with a temperature of 15º C and above can offer significantly better handling characteristics. Thus, not only the response time to steering movements is shortened by appropriate summer tyres in the warmer seasons, but also ensures more excellent directional stability, as well as lower fuel consumption and braking distance.

Good 205 55 R 16 summer tyres should cause the least possible rolling noise and equally low rolling resistance to ensure fuel-efficient driving. Tests of numerous manufacturer-independent car magazines or automobile associations is a good help in deciding on suitable 205 55 R 16 summer tyres. Experience has shown that an expensive premium tyre may not always be the best and a cheaper model from the Far East is not necessarily worse than the models of many European or American premium brand manufacturers.
