Just avoid, unless you live in Finland or something. Driving in WET and Dry, just terrible grip and I have a 4x4 Subaru with LSD. It's shocking really. Unless you drive really slow, it's OK then, but come roundabout they just don't grip doesn't matter wet or dry. Good in snow, but it should be at least good in wet as well and OK in dry, but It's crap in both wet and dry, so not good for me, will not buy again.
05.06.2019 from Ash
I didn't get these on until Feb/Mar when worst of the weather had passed. Driven on main roads & motorways at temps between 3°c and 16°c in mixed weather without problems. Obviously they were less responsive at the higher temps but never felt dangerous. No sign of wear at all. Dry road grip when accelerating lost traction a bit too easily but cornering was predictable.

Best winter tyres I've had. Great grip in the snow and really good on cold roads and in the rain. Have performed well now that it's started warming up. Size (not listed on the Dropbox) 245/40/18

28.06.2025 from Charles Hillman
The tyres perform well. At that price I would expect no less. (But Michelins tend to cost even more than Continentals.) We don't get a lot of snow in Essex, England these days, but when we lived in parts of Germany where (at least then) it snowed in winter we always found Continental Winter Tyres performed well. And indeed I've left the winter tyres on for the summer this year. Partly through laziness. But also, low profile summer tyres look "cool" with alloy in the show rooms, but with all the pot holes and broken roads here in England, slightly thicker tyres on (slightly smaller) steel rims offer better resilience (and comfort). Economy penalty must existnotably inrespect of fuel, but appears very marginal as long as the tyres remain fully inflated. Which (so far) they do without frequent top-ups. Though I appreciate that reading what I just wrote makes me sounds very old. Ainsi soit il. And it still feels odd to be asked to review Winter Tyres in June.
09.11.2023 from Michael Yates
These are great winter tyres which I run all year round ( living in rural Wales). The problem is getting them in the size I need. I generally have to order at least 3 months before I am going to need them so this review is actually for the tyres I bought two years ago and which still have about 5000 miles (8000 km) wear left. The original summer tyres fitted to the car when I bought it new only lasted 25000 miles so these Continentals actually represent good value for money - and they don’t skid on muddy farm tracks in summer. I had a puncture and the runflat function worked well. But these tyres cannot be repaired by the usual method and there was no chance of getting a new pair of tyres in this size (have to replace in pairs on this car). My only option was the ‘slime’ injection which has worked perfectly. No loss of pressure over the last 5000 miles.
18.03.2022 from Claire Hunter
A much more balanced and user friendly tyre than the Pirelli winters they replaced which were supplied by BMW. Less tramlining. More precise grip and steering yet also more comfortable ride. Unable to accurately comment on fuel consumption as I haven’t monitored it that closely. Snow use not really tested this winter in the UK so can’t comment with any true experience.

Durable winter tyres

In winter conditions, winter tyres are clearly superior to classic summer tyres. That's because they are perfectly tuned to the cold season. Thus, the material mixture used for low temperatures, as they are typical for the winter months, are optimized.

Winter tyres are currently not mandatory in Britain. Traditionally, they have been regarded as specialised snow tyres, and snowy winters are less common in the UK than in other parts of Europe. However, most modern products of this class are actually best described as cold weather tyres and are designed to work effectively in all road conditions at low temperatures.

Proven superiority of winter tyres

Numerous tests have been performed by manufacturers and prestigious independent organisations - such as ‘Auto Express’ magazine, one of the biggest supporters of winter tyres in the UK – in cold dry and wet conditions, as well as on ice, slush, and snow. The conclusion is that modern studless winter tyres are far superior to summer tyres even on wet roads when temperatures drop below 7°C.

Also, on snow, ice, or when temperatures are lower than -5°C, these cold weather tyres are clearly superior to the all-season rubber of similar quality. Please note, however, that using studded tyres with metal studs on public roads is illegal in Britain.

Why are cold weather tyres a great choice for the cold season?

TyreSafe, one of the UK’s leading tyre safety organisations, is an active advocate of winter tyres. They point out that, although damp roads may look similar in warm and cold weather, true cold weather tyres perform much better in such conditions at low temperatures. The broad consensus among experts is that winter tyres are the best choice for the cold season, even when snow is not a common issue – and especially when it is!

Advanced technology

Cold weather tyre technology has advanced considerably from the times when such products mainly relied on studs for better grip on frozen surfaces. Today’s winter tyres employ advanced rubber compound formulas with higher natural rubber and silica content. These prevent hardening at low temperatures, ensuring superior grip and load management.

Aquaplaning resistance

A special, more open tread pattern is also important for adequate traction and control on ice, snow, or slush. Winter tyre treads display aggressive-looking arrays of wide grooves, sipes, and micro-sipes that allow them to keep their footing on the snow. The open treads are also effective at resisting aquaplaning, as they can easily move out of the way large quantities of fluid.

Should you fit only two winter tyres on your vehicle?

Many people wonder if it is better to fit two or all four winter tyres on the vehicle. And the answer is it is always better to buy winter tyres in a set of four than in a pair and fit them on front wheels only. This is due to the fact that if you fit two different sets to the front and rear of your car you will have the impression that the car wants to turn about, hence increasing the risk of losing the stability and the balance of your vehicle. On the other hand, if you fit only two winter tyres to the rear, you will go through the same occurrence of imbalance between your wheels and you may end up losing the control of your vehicle and very likely get under-steer. In other words, your vehicle will keep moving in spite of your corrective actions.

The best winter tyre deals

Bottom line, when choosing the suitable winter tyre for your vehicle and driving style, reading the current winter tyre reviews and tests can help, as regularly carried out by independent specialist magazines and portals as well as fellow drivers.

Whether you are looking for premium, high-performance, or cheap tyres you will find the competitive deals at Tirendo.co.uk! Therefore, buy winter tyres here and equip your vehicle with tyres suitable for cold weather conditions. If you need rims to go with your winter tyres, you may also search through our complete wheels with winter tyres assortment.
