The exact size of a tyre can be found on its sidewall.
The following chart shows you how to read a tyre size.
1. Overall tire width in mm
2. Ratio of tire height to tire width in%
3. Tire design: ''R'' = radial tires (widely used), ''D'' or ''-'' = diagonal tires (rare)
4. Required rim diameter for this tire in inches
5. Key figure for tire load capacity
6. Key figure for the permissible maximum speed (speed index)
7. Motorcycle tire identification, tires only approved for motorcycles
8. DOT labeling
9. Date of manufacture of the tire (week of production / year of production)

SPEED INDEX:
The speed index indicates the maximum speed intended for the tyre. Up to this value, the manufacturer guarantees optimum operation with the appropriate tyre pressure. The maximum speed allowed for this vehicle is given in the vehicle owner's manual; this information can be used to select the appropriate speed index for the tyre. The speed index is the last mark on the sidewall of the tyre.

These tyres were a revelation. All year round sporty road tyre - which perfectly matches the Street Triple. Plenty of dry summer grip and just on the quick side of neutral steering, but quick warm up and consistent grip in winter. Confident wet grip.

I have had nothing but puncture after puncture with Pirelli. 2 Rosso 2&rsquo;s and even worse Rosso 3&rsquo;s x2, too soft for British road&rsquo;s but I am held to ransom as I can&rsquo;t get Michelin&rsquo;s in the size any more for some reason.

Good grip wet &amp; dry(&gt;10degC) and reasonable feedback, mainly used on fast A and twisty B roads. Ride quite hard so only about 2500 miles from rear tyre, about double for front. Comparable to other tyres, is Michelin road smart 4

Supermoto Tyres – A Great Impact on Handeling

The most distinctive element of a Supermoto is the wheels. A set of Supermoto tyres can have a great impact on your ride, be it on or off-road. Uneven knobs, bad tyre pressure and even the wrong compounds, all influence how your motorcycle tyres.

Specific tyre models

Due to the increased popularity of Supermotos or Supermotards on the streets, some manufacturers are producing specific tyre models. These tyres are mostly "H" rated, use adherent rubber compounds that reach the temperature more easily, and use a more flexible and lighter carcass. The lighter weight is essential. The more of that you have, the slower your bike can change direction, accelerate and stop.

The most common sizes for Supermotos or Supermotards are

  • 120/70/R17 for front and
  • 150/60/R17 or 160/60/R17 for rear wheel.
